Efficient & convenient instruction

ESD-U is a hybrid program, with all courses held virtually with real-time instruction plus opportunities for in-person participation in select sessions. The program is intended to be completed within 1 year (July to June) with required courses in the summer, on Saturdays, and occasionally Wednesday evenings.

Courses

ESD-U courses will be held using Zoom, a remote online video conferencing system. There may be opportunities for in-person collaboration, as needed and as facilities
are available. Courses are synchronous (i.e. held in live, real-time) with some asynchronous activities and coursework (i.e. to be completed individually outside of regularly scheduled class time) utilizing Canvas.

Schedule

ESD-U does not operate on formal quarter or semester schedules, however for ease of reference, the calendar year is broken up into four terms: Summer (July 1 through September 30), Fall (October 1 through December 31), Winter (January 1 through March 31), Spring (April 1 through June 30).

July – August

Courses begin in July, spanning 3-5 weeks, Monday-Friday 9am-4pm.

September – May

For the remainder of the year, courses occur 1-3 Saturdays per month with occasional Wednesday evenings. Number of weeks in the summer, number of Saturdays per month, and number of Wednesday evenings are dependent on route and endorsement.

June

Candidates will finish in early or late June, depending on endorsement area. For specific dates/times of courses based on route/endorsement, refer to the Year-at-a-Glance Calendars.
