Add a teaching endorsement that’s right for U!

Applications due May 5, 2024

“Retooling” candidates currently hold a Washington state teaching certificate, are employed as an educator in a Washington school district, and are seeking an additional endorsement. ESD-U offers retooling endorsements in:

  • Special Education

The Special Education endorsement gives candidates an overview of the various models, theories, philosophies, and regulations that shape special education. It also readies candidates to support students with disabilities and those requiring extra assistance from Pre-K through 12th grade.

  • English Language Learners

The English Language Learner (ELL) endorsement equips candidates with tools from applied linguistics, second language acquisition, and literacy development to support students learning English from Pre-K through 12th grade. By getting ready as a teacher, you’ll be able to set up your classroom to meet the needs of all students for effective learning.

  • Elementary Education

The Elementary Education endorsement equips candidates to teach a diverse range of subjects to students in grades K-8, while also providing a deep understanding of the cognitive, social, emotional, linguistic, creative, and physical development that children undergo during these critical years.

  • Reading

The Reading endorsement prepares candidates to apply evidence-based literacy research into instructional practices to improve student literacy in Pre-K through 12th grade. It’s a great fit for any teacher aiming to enhance literacy in their classrooms and support all learners, including those with dyslexia or who are learning English as a second language, to become better readers.
