Teacher certification that works for U!

ESD-U is a teaching certification program operated by ESD 112 that offers alternative routes to certification at an affordable rate and an efficient pace from any location.

The one-year certificate program provides a blend of meaningful coursework, reflective engagement with public school teachers and students, experienced and knowledgeable faculty and staff, and a commitment to fashioning teacher leaders who will make a difference in the world. The program is designed to build teacher candidates’ professional competence, develop a global educational perspective, create cultural competence for classroom teaching in a diverse society, and foster a love of learning that lasts a lifetime.

Areas of Certification

For individuals with a bachelor’s degree, ESD-U offers teacher certification in:

  • Special Education (stand-alone)
  • Special Education & Elementary Education (dual)
  • English Language Learners & Elementary Education (dual)
  • Elementary Education (stand-alone)

In future years, ESD-U may also offer coursework in additional endorsement areas based on district partner requests.

Applicant Qualifications

Applicants to ESD-U currently hold a bachelor’s degree and are seeking a teaching certificate in Washington state. Applicants may need to take prerequisite tests before beginning the program. Priority will be given to those currently employed in districts partnering with the ESD-U program.
